High There! We figured the best way to start out our little blog was by giving you some insight to us and our world. We are a husband and wife team -- together 18 years in May '23 and married for the last 8 of those years. We have a fur baby, Teddy the Chorkie, who we take everywhere with us and who you will see here often working as the Shop Dog. He's our little sidekick - it's Teddy's world and we just live in it! Come in and say hello to him anytime, he's always good for a guaranteed serotonin boost!
Jason and myself are both huge advocates for the hemp and cannabis plants because both of our lives have been saved by them - if not for cannabis neither of us would be here. Jason has been hit by a car, fallen off a roof, and multiple other incidents where he has experienced extreme physical trauma and, thanks to his old school upbringing, never really got the care he needed and just "walked it off". He experiences intense daily pain and wouldn't be able to walk without the assistance of cannabinoids. That doesn't even mention the internal stomach issues and mystery pains! He's finally in the process of seeing doctors to look at what's going on but it's a very long road in our US Healthcare System as we all know so wish him luck! I have battled Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome since 2005 -- my mother passed away and I was left pretty much on my own and the anxiety of having to grow up immediately at 19 sent me into intense bouts of vomiting and pain that wouldn't stop. I would end up hospitalized for weeks on end and I even had to file medical bankruptcy because of the medical bills, and that's with really great insurance! More to come in a future blog about my battle with CVS and fighting doctors about my cannabis use. Suffice all that to say that both of us have an extreme need for pain relief and the MANY other benefits that the hemp and cannabis plants provide. Both of us have seen dear friends go down the road of opiates and other narcotics abuse and we vowed to never let that be us. Together we had to find another solution. It has led us to spend years of our lives learning everything we can about cannabis and how to use it to heal our bodies, minds and spirits. We have now dedicated our lives to the plant and helping to heal others the same way it has healed us.
As medical cannabis patients in Central/Northern Virginia we had a really hard time finding stores where we could see what newest and latest innovations in cannabinoids, smoking accessories and glass were available. We struggled to find a place where the people behind the counter could help us out any more than we could help ourselves. We would end up helping other customers next to us and teaching them more than the employees of the shops ever would be able to do. We were told "Wow, you guys are amazing, you should do this for a living!" so many more times than I can count. So...we did!
A lot of people ask where The Pink Sloth comes from and here it is! Let's start with the fact that I'm *obsessed* with sloths. Like unhealthily obsessed. They take their time always, enjoying everything around them and not rushing through life, and they're just the cutest things ever created and I want to hug and love them all!! My favorite color is pink (I mean, obviously) and then this happened. Bertha is a 7 foot tall stuffed sloth that Jason got me at the State Fair. Did you know if you just ask the carnival attendant how much that you can just buy the stuffie and not spend hours wasting your life away trying to win a silly game? No? Me neither until that day! She now lives in the corner of our bedroom and makes for a very comfy place to sit and read a book and have a toke!
When we created the idea of the store it just made sense that we call it The Pink Sloth. We want to help everyone achieve their ultimate Slothiness! Our goal is to always teach you something when you come and see us. We want you to leave with more knowledge about the cannabis and hemp plants than you arrived with, as well as a big smile and hopefully something super cute and fun for you and a friend! We wanted to create a unique space that wasn't like any other smoke shop in the area. Jason hand-built the shelving and we have put our personal touch on every inch of the space. We have very carefully curated the items on our shelves and believe me when I say we have SO MUCH MORE to come! This is just the beginning and as we grow we will be able to add so many more amazing items that will blow your mind and warm your soul. We also have plans for some super fun and educational events coming your way! So keep your eyes peeled for all the slothy goodness!
